EPA estimated 238 miles! Plus looking at the supposed sub-$40k pricing means that, even with a few options, after the tax credits GM can market these right on the national average new car price. Plus it has something like 200 hp and 266 lb-ft of all electric torque. These are the kind of vehicles that can get even the most diehard cash buyers into leasing so the biggest winner here will be GM Financial.

Eh, not a Tesla. I’ll wait six years for my Model 3. How dare you call me a fanboy?

Nice. 200 hp and 266 ft lbs of torque in a little car like that it's an electric hot hatch. Sign me up :)

Ewwwww, what is that weird golden logo on the grille? Wait, it’s not a Tesla?? Pff I’d rather wait until 202x so I can finally lease the Model 3.

Breh, do you think people (especially in the US) still buy cars or anything else for that matter with straight cash?

Encouraging, for sure...though I still think they should have taken the Bolt tech and stuffed it in the already existing Encore in order for it to really sell.

This makes a hole lot of sense as a DD. I could see myself having that and the fun weekend car no problem.

I like it. I wish they would make it a little less van-like to satisfy Americans’ insatiable crossover lust, but I still think it will do well.

It starts at $40k? Doesn't the i3, with a carbon fiber frame, start at $42k? If I was in te market for a tumor shaped electric car I'd take the i3.

I still feel like this was a major miss. They should have made it look like a clean car with great lines. Few people want hatchbacks in the USA they want sedans or better yet crossovers

Bolt - $37k - 240 miles.
i3 - $42k - 80-114 miles.
The Bolt actually trumps the i3 in all measures save for looks. :)

it’s not only the amount of torque, but the delivery. I had a new Volt for the weekend a couple of weeks ago, and even that small-ish electric motor pulls harder than one might expect. with no need for multiple gears, it’s just... go.

They do indeed and not just used ones. Bear in mind that if you’re buying a €30,000 car you’re probably trading in a reasonably new one so your cost to change is a lot less than €30,000.
Incidentally quite a lot of people buy houses without finance.

I think there is a new i3 coming soon that will up the range.

That’s why it says 80-114, because the 2017 update bumps the range to 114 miles, not up from 114.
So, the Bolt still beats it by a country mile.

The average age of private new car buyers is quite high, at least in Germany, so yeah, older people tend to buy things with cash. I would just do the same if I were to buy a car, new or used. A friend of mine is paying off his car and regrets it despite ‘low’ interst rates.

It’s closer to a crossover than a small hatchback. It’s bigger than it looks when you see it in person. That said, it would be a Trax-sized CUV, not an electric Equinox.

How much is the Bolt supposed to weigh? Most EVs are pretty heavy (thanks, battery!) so it may not be as spritely as we hope.

Yeah I meant to edit my post. Once I did research I saw that it weighs 3,580 lbs if my memory serves me correctly. Not very quick in the corners I’m sure. Being electric and having full torque from 0 rpm’s I imagine it can probably drag its hulking weight out of a corner pretty quickly though.

I have seen it in person. It is big and I like the styling however I think going with a hatchback was fundamentally wrong for the United States.
